Protect Our Pipes ,  Act Now: Stop FOG & Non-Flushables

When fats, oils, and grease (FOG) go down the drain, they don’t just vanish, they cool, harden, and choke our sewer lines. The result? Costly blockages, raw sewage backups, and environmental damage.

FOG hides in everyday kitchen waste:

• Cooking oil & grease

• Butter, lard & margarine

The fix is simple:

• Cool it, contain it, trash it. Pour cooled FOG into a sealed container before disposal.
  
  

• Wipe it out. Use a paper towel to remove grease from cookware before washing.
  
  

• Catch it early. Use sink strainers to stop scraps from slipping down the drain.
  
  

Think Before You Flush – The 3 Ps Rule
If it’s not Pee, Poop, or (Toilet) Paper, it does not belong in the toilet.

Flushable? Think again. Wipes, hygiene products, paper towels, cotton swabs, and “biodegradable” items do not break down in the sewer system. They tangle, clog, and damage pumps and pipes. When in doubt, throw it out.

The Town of Grifton operates a wastewater collection system under permit WQCS00247, issued by the ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT COMMISSION, N.C. DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES. This system consists of approximately 20 linear miles of gravity sewer lines, 6.4 linear miles of force mains, 10 duplex and 6 simplex pump stations, and all associated piping, valves, and appurtenances necessary to operate a wastewater collection system for the Town of Grifton.
