UPDATE - STILL IN EFFECT AS OF DECEMBER 5, 2025

Answers to questions regarding December 2nd's water leak (If you have other questions, please put them below):

1. The System Pressure Advisory Remains In effect. While we consider the risk to be low, we have issued this advisory as a precautionary measure. This advisory will remain in effect until a water sample can be tested by the Lab; this is anticipated to occur tomorrow.
2. The break was caused by corrosion on a cast-iron water line. While the exact age of the line is currently unknown, it appeared to be aged. We attempted to isolate the break with our Valve network but were unable to reduce pressure with Valves alone to perform the required repair. In coordination with our ORC, we made the decision to reduce system pressure in order to fix the main.
3.   Is the town pursuing funding to repair old infrastructure?

Yes, the Town is pursuing grant funding to replace old infrastructure. In fact, water lines on St. David Street, Charlotte Street, Glenwood Drive, and Dawson Road are scheduled for replacement in 2026. The Town also has an application submitted via the Viable Utility Reserve program for funding to replace lift stations. Finally, the town recently received grant funds to replace galvanized service lines around town.

4. How did the Town Notify residents?

- The Town contacted WITN news to help provide information to residents.

- Town Staff contacted businesses who may experience service disruptions via Phone.

- Email Updates went out to all water customers who are signed up for emails. If you would like to sign up for our official email list, please submit your email to Town Hall.

- Facebook updates occurred in real time.

 

Finally, please thank a utility worker today. They were soaking wet in 40-degree weather yesterday to get our water back on.
