Grifton Shad Festival Committee is ramping up for the April 2022 Shad Festival. This will be the 50th anniversary of the Grifton Shad Festival and the committee is working hard planning the events and fundraising to finance the events.

On October 16, 2021, Shad Festival will have its first fundraiser. Here’s the list of activities:

  1. Motorcycle Poker Run. Participants gather at 9:00 a.m. at Ron Ayes Motorsports, 1929 N. Memorial Drive, Greenville, NC. Kick stands up by 10:00 a.m. Stops to be announced at registration. Poker Run will end at 1:00 p.m. at the Grifton Depot. Cost is $10.00 per bike. Questions: call Tommy Sugg at 252-560-7828 or text Luke Woolard at 252-375-6095.
  2. Chili Cook-Off. Get out your best chili recipe and compete for prizes and bragging rights! This event will be held at the Grifton Depot on October 16th.  There is no monetary entry fee. Entry fee is your pot of chili – at least 6 quarts. We encourage cooks to set up in time for chili to be ready for tasting at 12 Noon. If you decide to cook your chili at home, bring chili to Depot by 11:45 a.m. in a container/pot that can be kept warm. Entrants are responsible for their own method of cooking, all necessary ingredients, cooking utensils, and serving spoon. Those wishing to sample and enjoy the chili will pay $10.00. Those folks can get a sample of each pot of chili, vote for the cook/chili you like the best, and get a pint of your favorite chili to enjoy at the Depot or take home. Winners will be announced by 1:30 p.m.
  3. Cruise-In. At 11:00 a.m. we are having a cruise-in for cars, trucks, and motorcycles including vehicles from Kinston Classic Car Club and the Ayden Car Club. All others are welcome as well.
  4. Free Music. Old Friends Band will begin playing at 1:00 p.m. on the stage at the Depot. Following Old Friends will be Donald Thompson Band.
  5. 50/50 Raffle. Past and present Miss Grifton Shad Queens and contestants will sell 50/50 tickets from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Drawing immediately following.
